Plastics such as fencing or colored cable ties are bunched, folded and layered together to create forms that blur the boundaries between sculpture and painting. They are deceptively simple pieces that can be enjoyed for their  straight forward construction techniques, vibrant colors or unique transformation of materials.

Currently I am creating installations that suggest something ominous or unpleasant is lurking behind the walls.  It could be an infestation of bugs, or an outbreak of mold, mildew or fungus.  What may be going on appears through cracks in the walls, electrical outlet plugs or vents in the ceiling.  The installations can also be enjoyed for their formal qualities and transformation of industrial materials.

“Mr. Fucigna’s wall sculpture is a gnarl of various industrial plastics, including orange netting. The material is shaped with a discernible bulge and marked over with forbidding blue spike-like sticks. “Get in my Belly” may be the oddest work in the show”.

William Zimmer, New York Times,  1/12/02

“It is a real accumulation of stuff with a real painterly sense to it. These are all lessons we have learned…
to look at found materials and see formal qualities”.

"The unusual materials and their intense colors combine to make Untitled Orange and Green reminiscent of large abstract paintings in the 1960’s and 70’s heyday, but the colors also work to defeat nostalgia”.

William Zimmer, New York Times,  5/27/01
