Using a variety of media such as fiberglass, steel, rubber, clothes-pins baby bottle nipples or sports balls, challenging images are created that relate to the figure or human condition. Viewers are engaged by odd combinations of materials or the attention to detail provoking imaginative thought about abstract subject matter.

“Look, for example, at Weston artist Joseph Fucigna’s room-filling installation of dangling Fiberglass rope, knotted with big globules of resin. The piece seems to quiver with alien tension, energizing the space with a theatrical tangle of neurons and synapses”.                       Matt Damsker, The Hartford Courant, 2/7/99

“All Plugged Up #2”
56” X 12” X 14”
steel, rubber – 1993

“This viewer’s personal award for the show’s most
outlandish work goes to Joseph Fucigna.

The work titled "Sports Balls" would appear to be a commentary on the American male obsession with sex and sports”.

William Zimmer, New York Times 6/23/96

"Crafted from his favorite material, rubber, Joe Fucigna's abstractions take on an identity all their own and force the mind to stretch, such as "Rubber Huts", which were featured in the United Nations Lobby"

Judith Marks-White
Westport Magazine,
Summer'01
